PSI
INTERNATIONAL, INC. AWARDED
CDC CONTRACT
FAIRFAX, VA --- PSI International, Inc.
(PSI) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) to code their adverse drug event cases (ADEC)
generated under their National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS). Under this contract, PSI will electronically receive
ADECs from CDC, medically code them using the International Conference on
Harmonization-approved Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA), validate
suspect drugs, perform quality assurance, and electronically return the coded records
to the CDC. PSI has processed over one million adverse event reports and coded
over twelve million terms in MedDRA for the FDA, the Department of Veterans
Affairs, and the pharmaceutical industry.
"This is the maiden opportunity for PSI to work
directly with the CDC, thus providing us an entrée into an agency that is
strategic to PSI’s Health Science niche business," stated Nazim Dhanani,
PSI’s President. "We are delighted
to provide MedDRA services to yet one more organization within the HHS whose
vital mission is to prevent and eradicate diseases around the globe. Our
efforts to focus PSI’s energies on applying information technology services to
the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries are yielding substantial benefits
to our customers and PSI.”
According to Bill York, PSI’s Director of Business
Development, “The ADEC contract is evidence of PSI’s unmatched credentials in
providing medical coding services and solutions to our Government and
commercial clients.” He stated, “It is a
great honor for PSI to participate in the NEISS program. It will improve patient safety by providing a
mechanism for receiving, storing, and processing information from the active
surveillance of adverse events experienced in the emergency rooms across US.”
